Module 13: Sequential Intercept Model (SIM)
10 Lessons -
The Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) is a framework developed to understand and address how individuals with mental health or substance use disorders (SUDs) interact with the criminal justice system. It provides a way to identify points in the criminal justice process where interventions can be implemented to divert individuals away from the traditional justice system and connect them with appropriate mental health or substance use treatment services.
The model is made up of five key intercepts (stages), each representing a critical point in the criminal justice process where diversion and support can occur. Peer recovery support is an important aspect of this model, as it offers individuals with lived experience of substance use or mental health disorders a way to support others through the criminal justice system.
